Let me hear a loud "what, what!" if your a proud WIC mom! I will say, when I initially signed up for WIC I was a little embarrassed and it seemed like a pain in the butt. But then I got to thinking, I pay taxes for this kind of stuff, so why shouldn't I use it if I'm eligible?
Now, I LOVE WIC! I will be so sad when the day comes that we do not qualify any more. I love the fact that I save about $50 off my grocery bill on things that we always need and when push comes to shove and we don't have any food...I just bust out the WIC checks and we have milk, eggs with cheese and peanut butter for dinner. Yummo (Hey, it's free)!!!
Anyway, for all of you that are already taking advantage of this benefit that you've paid for via taxes...I want to encourage you to go to this AWESOME place that I discovered today. I don't remember the name but it's up off of Lake Blvd. in the shopping center with Round Table and McDonald's. It's a small little shop tucked back between Round Table and the pet store and they only stock WIC approved items. I was in and out in 5 minutes. No judging person behind me rolling there eyes because my WIC check were taking so long. No cashier telling me "this is not a WIC approved item" when there was clearly a sign posted that it was. The clerk actually got most of my stuff for me and was so nice to me. It was worth the separate trip just to eliminate less stress in the process.
So, if you don't already have WIC and you think you might qualify, follow this old adage, "I ain't to proud to beg!" and go apply. And if you're already a WIC mom (woot, woot!) go to this awesome store and support their efforts to provide a stress free WIC shopping experience.

"What what!" I love me some WIC goodies. Been a proud member since Marty was three months old and we found out we didn't actually have to pay two hundred dollars a month for formula.
I'm glad you posted this blog. I too feel like if we are already paying taxes for it, we should be able to get it. I was on medicare for Elijah's entire birth and it was so nice to be able to have.
Do you have to go to a lot of classes and stuff for WIC?
2 Erin - When you initially sign up you have to income verification kind of stuff but it's not that big of a deal. Every few months they make you come to a class but they're usually only 30 minutes and often helpful. Also, every few months you have to fill out a "diet" sheet for your little one, which is pretty simple.
That's crazy. I didn't know that existed. I'm totally going to go there. I hate when you get the stink eye from the people behind you. And the checkers get all huffy like, "Oh stupid WIC checks again." Poopy.
There are a few Wic stores in Redding, one on Hartnell also, I always want to try them to avoid the judging glares of other shoppers but I just can't get 3 kids out of the car for one more stop!! But i agree holla for Wic!!!
can they do WIC checks for Clown Baby? If so, sign me up. Cat food is crazy expensive too.
Holla! WIC is a great way to supplement your grocery bill, with the price of food going up. I used to be embarrased when I had to use my wic vouchers and food stamp card, but someone told me that the system is their to help those in need. I now appreciate the help and glad I am not too prideful to take the help.
I just saw that. I think that it is called Erles something or other. I noticed it when I took my kids to the pet store and Asher dashed into the store on our way out. Way cool. When I was there they got all the ladies food and carried the bags out to the car for her cause she had an infant and toddler with her. Nice. It was fast like three minutes.
Yeah for WIC lovers! Eric was a bit hesitant to sign up, but loves it now. Elliot loves the play house at the WIC store on Hartnell. I think he likes that he can reach the doorbell all by himself.
As for WIC goes, I'm loving the help financially - although I have to say, I have no idea what to do with the dried beans... any recipes out there? :)
Yup I love those stores I use the one on the coner of hartnell and churn creek, and they've actually brought the stuff out to the car for me after I called them and said my back hurt too bad to get out with both the girls and it was raining. They ran out and I never got out if the car!!!!!!
I was a WIC mom for a season. It's great and was such a blessing for our family in the time we needed the extra help!
Yeah - any ideas with the beans? I still have bags in my pantry!
What about responsible people who work hard and actually make money but don't qualify for free food. Glad I can feed your kids! Might as well have another kid while your at it and send me the bill!

I had a few extra minutes a couple weeks ago and was blog hopping and ran across this post. I love what you had to say.
A few days after reading this I was talking to a girl at work who is from Korea, she has three kids. Her husband was a teacher but has had a hard time getting a job here with all the credential stuff. So money is pretty tight for them. Anyhow I mentioned WIC to her, she had never heard of it.
Well she looked into it and yesterday she had her meeting with them. Happy to let you know she was approved and is going to be getting WIC for her family. And while there the case worker also put a referral in for Food Stamps for her family.
I thought this was all pretty awesome so thought I would share!

time for another bloggy.
Hi, I am a friend of Bethany Skinner's. Just an FYI there is one in Anderson too! They are all locally owned by a family in Anderson. Quinten and Barbara Erlei!!! Great christian family. Erlei's Healthy Start has three stores total.
You said two things in your response, which you deleted.
"This blog was/is intended for my friends who know me" Yeah, so make it private because it's posted for the world to see.
"The intent of this blog was to encourage other struggling families to apply" ... i thought you said it was for your friends?
And you are right when you say, "that you don't me". I think you meant to say you don't know me, but this isn't an grammar blog. Besides, who am I to complain about grammar? I'm no good at writing myself.
You don't know me, I'm Old Greg. I'm a scaly man-fish. Haha, that is what I thought of when I read your deleted response. Did you ever see Old Greg? Hit it up on YouTube. That's some funny.
The final thought (that's going to be deleted again I'm sure) is welfare is a great tool to help people who are struggling. It really should not be something that is used just because you can. It should be used because you have no other alternative. Again, that's just my Conservative view of government.
Cheers and I do wish you the best, friend. bye.
No, Brett. You're wrong...I will post your last comment so people can see how you've unnecessarily been a jerk to me.
It's cool though, don't worry...I don't have enough time to go read random people's blogs and criticize them. So you won't have to worry about me returning the favor.
And, I'm pretty sure we're not friends.
Wow, looks like some people (Brett G & Shadowolf) have nothing better to do than wander through cyberspace looking for people to bash for no reason. That's pathetic.
We use WIC and let me tell you that if you DO qualify for WIC that you ARE struggling. They don't just give it out to anyone. We BARELY qualify and we have three kids and scrape by month to month- usually having to choose which bills are the most important ones to pay. If you'd researched a little more before opening your giant mouth, you would have found that WIC is there to help families that really do need the help. I'm SO sorry that your taxes are helping to feed my kids, but I'd way rather they be used for that then to kill innocent fetuses- which they are ALSO being used for-FYI.
